During the night of August 12th to 13th an extraordinary natural phenomenon is forecasted to occur: a shower of shooting stars is expected to embellish the sky of Nendaz. Depending on the year, about a hundred shooting stars can be seen in one hour at this time. In theory, this means more than one shooting star per minute! But not all of them are equally bright! The absence of a moon in the early evening and the isolated setting of Prarion (ten minutes from Nendaz) is particularly favourable to observe this since the sky is very dark and the faint shooting stars are clearly visible.
It is possible to enhance this outing by starting with an evening walk of about an hour, before enjoying a delicious meal. Take the Tracouet gondola which leaves from the centre of the resort (last departure at 16h30) and reach the restaurant by following a signposted path, which runs alongside the Lac Noir (2'200 metres above sea level).
