Chapel Saint-Sébastien

Situated on the way out of the village of Basse-Nendaz in the direction of Fey, the chapel sits on a rocky peninsula dominating the Rhône Valley.

There are no historical records in order to help establish the precise date of construction, however, a document dating from March 1555 reports the donation of three florins and two altar cloths for the restoration of certain religious buildings in the region, including the chapel of St Sébastian.

Another more dramatic historical fact adorned the surrounding area of this sacred place: on the rocks where the chapel stood, the gallows of the Tithe of Nendaz were also to be found, where criminals were taken to be hung. But this sombre chapter in history does not prevent us from admiring the beauty of the area and the magnificent panoramic view over the Rhône Valley.
