This walk, in the heart of the larches of Balavaux, cannot fail to enchant you with its grandiose landscape and its view of the Rhône valley.
The excursion begins with a télécabine ride from Nendaz up to Tracouet (altitude 2,200 m), offering a panoramic view of the whole Rhône valley.
On arrival at Tracouet, follow the trail along the Lac Noir, then continue down in the direction of Prarion. You will then cross the mountain meadow of Balavaux, situated in the commune of Isérables. Your walk continues through the gigantic centennial larches, some of which are reputed to be the biggest in Europe. In autumn the golden needles of the larches contrast magnificently with the dark green of the pine trees. Balavaux thus becomes a dazzling place with its multi-coloured landscape.
Before starting your return to Nendaz, allow yourself a well-merited pause. To do this, you have the choice between two typical mountain restaurants : the Cabane de Balavaux, open in July and August and situated at the summit of the alpine meadow, and the Chalet des Alpes at Prarion, open from July to October.
To finish the walk, follow the Bisse de Saxon along the path which goes through the forest and along the ancient irrigation canal.
Departure point the yellow sign opposite the arrival place of the cable car at Tracouet.
