Every winter, Beuson is transformed into a fairytale setting. The inhabitants install lights on the roofs of their houses, the chapel and on the bridge for an amazingly magical effect.
There was a time when Beuson was the industrial centre of the municipality. During the 18th and 19th centuries, this village was as populated as Basse-Nendaz, the main town of the area. The proximity of the Printse river was a real asset because the hydraulic power was the only one capable of running the industry of the time (flour mill, sawmill and tannery).
Beuson is also a starting point for your hikes. From the heights of this village, the bisse de Salins departs, dating back to 1435 and thus being one of the oldest bisses in the region. An impressive metal footbridge overhangs the river Ogeintse for a very aerial passage..Village Beuson automne 2017 (Inès Bonvin)Beuson village 2017 (Florian Guntern)Village Beuson Nuit 2015 (Etienne Bornet)Village Beuson 2015 (Arnaud Delhez)881.66766357422BrignonIn the Middle Ages, a watchtower stood on the hillock on the present site of the Brignon castle restaurant. Peter II of Savoy, who had authority over the Nendaz region at the time and was in conflict with the Bishop of Sion, decided in 1261 to build a dungeon there to protect the land on the right bank of the Printse. The strategic location made it possible to keep an eye on the valley and to communicate by signals with the Tour de Conthey in the Rhone Valley. The castle was demolished only a few years after its construction for financial reasons. Its ruins can still be seen today.
In the first part of the 20th century, the first hotel in the municipality was built on the ruins of the old tower.
If you are in the area, stop at the Brignon dairy for some tasty cheese and other local products.
In Brignon, at the very bottom of the village, you can also find the start of the Bisse de Baar. To access it, you must pass through the cowshed where you can say 'hi' to its residents.Village Brignon 2018 (Florian Guntern)Brignon chapelle 2003 (Yvette Martignoni)Brignon printemps 2014 (Etienne Bornet)1270.5914306641ClèbesThe heart of the village of Clèbes is composed of stone houses dating from the beginning of the 20th century. In the afternoon of the 8th of August 1904, a fire broke out. The flames destroyed a large part of the houses, which at that time were built close together and mostly of wood. As a result, the village was rebuilt exclusively in stone.
Today, there are still small barns used in the past to store hay, straw and cereal.
At the far end of the village, a path located on a glacial moraine leads to the bisse de Salins.Village Clèbes 2018 (Inès Bonvin)Clèbes Champlan 2017 (Florian Guntern)1442.1076660156VerreyPerched on the sunny mountainside overlooking the villages of Clèbes and Beuson, you can find the sleepy hamlet of Verrey. It presents an interesting architectural entity, representative of the traditional Valaisan village with its wooden and stone houses, its barns, stables and granaries. The houses were grouped together to preserve a maximum amount of land for agriculture. The cereal fields and meadows benefiting from maximum sunshine were highly sought after.
Even today, around the houses scorched by the sun, cows, goats, horses and sheep graze on ancient cereal fields.
The Ermitage guest house and restaurant, a completely renovated building dating back to 1823, offers you the opportunity to spend a night or to taste local products in an incredible out-of-time setting.Verrey Village 2018 (Etienne Bornet)Verrey Automne 2018 (Florian Guntern)1357.4580078125The Djiette picnic areaThe picnic area has several tables with benches, BBQ and raclette equipment, a drinking fountain, toilets, lighting and wood burning stove.
