National final of the Hérens breed of cattle

Tradition & markets Free

Hérens breeders and their cows meet in Aproz for the national cow fighting final, during which the victorious cow is crowned Queen for each category.

Event has ended

Cows of the Hérens breed instinctively fight each other horn to horn to determine the hierarchy within the herd. This behaviour can be observed in the summer on the mountain pastures, but also during organized cow fighting events.

Preliminary rounds are held in autumn and spring in various locations in the region. The best cows are then qualified for the National Grand Final, which takes place every year in May in Aproz. The final has become an essential event in Valais. It represents a genuine link between farmers and the public from here and farther afield. An event not to be missed !
